Antonio Tarver: I am a sharp-shooter and will target Lateef Kayode’s chin and kidney – Boxing News
Antonio Tarver, the International Boxing Organisation cruiserweight champion, in a recent interview bashed Lateef Kayode, his upcoming opponent, and said that he is a sharp-shooter and will target Lateef’s kidney and chin adding that he will not run away
at all and will beat Kayode with his defence.
Antonio is scheduled to defend his title against Lateef in a 12-round bout which will headline the pay-per-view put forth by Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions. The ring for the event will be set up at Home Depot Center in Carson, California, United
States.
The event will be televised live on Showtime’s weekly boxing show and will also witness Austin Trout defend his WBA World light middleweight title against Delvin Rodriguez in a 12-round clash.
Tarver and Kayode recently met at a press conference and literally whammed each other with harsh comments. The duo shares a bit history together. Antonio has been doing the ring side commentary in bouts that witnessed Lateef in action.
During those commentaries, Tarver always pinpointed Lateef’s mistakes and never lauded his jabs which connected well and even made the whole crowd roar with excitement.
It was these continuous comments that irked Lateef and one day after the bout he came to the announce table and aggressively challenged Antonio. During the media interaction, Tarver, also known as the ‘Magic Man’, cleared the view point that he did not deliberately
highlighted Lateef’s mistake.
Antonio was of the view that he has a very diversified and handsome experience of the sport and can see things and mistakes that normal human beings cannot. Tarver, 43, has enjoyed a very healthy and prosperous amateur career and currently boasts 29 wins
out of a total 35.
While giving a detailed explanation, Antonio remarked that he has never ever run away from any bout adding that the only time he runs is when he is training. Tarver said that he does not care from where Lateef is coming from adding that all he knows is that
Kayode is a good brawler and he has taken the challenge only because he knows he is a lethal opponent.
Antonio stated, “I have confidence in my ability and I’m a sharp-shooter. I’m trying to hit that kidney and I’m trying to hit that chin and I’m accurate. I’m going to beat you down with my defense. I’m going to stay in close and I’m going to work. I’m going
to work for the knockout.”
Tarver, who has nailed 20 of his opponents by KO, commented, “I’m going to put some shots on this guy combination style, something he doesn’t know anything about. We’re going to use our angles and we’re going to out-smart him and then when it’s comes down
to it, we’re going to show that he’s not the only one with muscles in the fight.”
Lateef, 29, has been in a total 18 bouts and boasts not only an undefeated streak but also the NABA cruiserweight title round his waist.
