Antonio Tarver picks Carl Froch over Glen Johnson for the Super-six semi-final – Boxing news
Former multiple light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver thinks Carl Froch will beat Glen Johnson in the semi-final of the Super-six.
The Nottingham’s Cobra, Carl Froch will take on the Road Warrior, Glen Johnson, in the super-middleweight competition. This match will take place in the Atlantic City on June 4, 2011.
However Tarver, who also works as an expert analyst with the event broadcaster, believes there is going to be another stellar performance from Froch.
“Froch is a slick, crafty, deceptive boxer but he has all the tools. He's more seasoned and can box a little bit more than Glen Johnson, and he can handle the pressure. You know what he did to Arthur Abraham, he was first to show us how to beat up Abraham.
Clearly he can box, he's got style and heart ... he's determined,” said Tarver.
Tarver also admired the way Froch fights and makes adjustment. While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “I like Froch to be able to make adjustments, because Glen Johnson is not an adjustments type of fighter, he's just straight-forward, pressure guy -
that gives Froch a lot of opportunities to counter-punch, to use combinations and lateral movement, and he can make those adjustments.”
The 42-year-old One Hit Wonder, Tarver, also commented on Andre Ward, who has already reached the finals. Tarver said would not pick Froch over Ward but on the same note, the American remarked if anyone can ever beat Ward in the final, it was Froch.
Tarver also claimed that the 33-year-old Froch, who has 27 of his 28 fight with 20 knockouts, is very close to becoming a complete package, as he is proving himself by pulling huge crowds and especially in America.
Tarver, who himself is set for a bout the Australia’s Danny Green in Sydney in July, justified his prediction by mentioning Froch’s previous fights. He stated they were all against the likes of Jean Pascal, Jermain Taylor, Andre Dirrell, Mike Kessler and
Arthur Abraham.
Let’s see whether Froch can really beat Johnson in the semis or not.
