Antonio Tarver reckons Bernard Hopkins did not want to fight with Chad Dawson – Boxing news
Antonio Tarver, who is the current International Boxing Organisation cruiserweight champion and a former Ring magazine, IBF, WBC, WBA and IBO light heavyweight champion, is absolutely not happy with the former WBC and The Ring Light Heavyweight
champion, Bernard Hopkins, as Tarver believes Hopkins should have got up against Chad Dawson.
The 46-year-old Hopkins, who became the oldest boxer ever to win a heavyweight title at the age of 46, lost his historic title to Chad ‘Bad’ Dawson last Saturday on October 15 in Los Angeles, California.
Hopkins, who is more commonly known as the Executioner, was controversially knocked down in the second round after Dawson very smartly lifted him up and threw him on the canvas. Hopkins afterwards claimed that his shoulder was injured badly and
he could not continue the fight. However, Tarver doesn’t agree with his countryman.
The 42-year-old One Hit Wonder, Tarver, in his exclusive interview at Fighthype.com, stated that Hopkins is a cagey fighter and he forced Dawson to unleash his frustration.
Tarver told Fighthype.com, “Bernard is a cagey fighter, but sometimes he's too cagey. Sometimes he trys to outthink everybody as if nobody's watching.”
“Look at the tape. Chad Dawson knew that he was going to take that out because he was pissed off. He was furious that Bernard was even trying to cop out to that, an injury like that. And I don't care, you can get a doctor to say anything,” Tarver
added.
Tarver, who carries a record of winning 29 of his 35 professional fights, with 20 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, also rejected Hopkins claims of an injured shoulder even when the doctor have revealed Hopkins’ shoulder was injured
badly.
Tarver insisted that Hopkins should have got up for the people who paid for the fight because anyone can make a doctor say what they want.
Tarver remarked, “Bernard should have got off of the canvas and attempted to fight and not just hold his arm like he couldn't use that arm and like the arm couldn't move. He should have attempted to fight...”
