Antonio Veic, Nicolas Devilder through to the second qualifier – Serbia Open 2012
Antonio Veic beats Marko Rajic 6-1, 6-0
Second seed, Antonio Veic of Croatia, completely demolished Marko Rajic of Serbia in straight sets in the first round of the qualifying draw at the Serbia Open in Belgrade. The Croatian allowed Rajic to win only one game in the
entire contest, humiliating him 6-1, 6-0 in just 52 minutes.
Veic made the best possible start, as he broke the Serbian in the very first game of the match and held his following serve to attain a 2-0 lead. Rajic managed to open his account by winning the third game of the first set but
he could not claim even one more, losing four in a row to go down 1-6.
The 24-year-old, Veic, did not lose any single game in the second set, claiming three breakthroughs and grabbing six in a row to triumph 6-0.
The Zagreb, Croatia resident bombarded Rajic with four aces and 62 percent of the first serves in the match. He had an impressive conversion rate, clinching 15 of the 18 first and nine of the 11 second delivery points. Veic did
not face any break point and converted six of the 16 he received.
Nicolas Devilder defeats Mikhail Ledovskikh 6-4, 6-3
World number 277, Nicolas Devilder, did not face much trouble in ousting Russian, Mikhail Ledovskikh, in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 and reaching the second qualifier.
Devilder and Ledovskikh failed to break each other in the first seven games of the opening set, taking the score 4-3 in the former’s favour. The Frenchman, Devilder, struck in the eighth game to move ahead 5-3 but Ledovskikh did
but take much time in reducing the trail to 4-5. Devilder clinched another breakthrough and sealed it 6-4.
Ledovskikh drew the first blood in the second set, as he snatched a break in the opening game but could not capitalise on it, levelling the score at 1-1. Devilder and the Russian held their serve in the next five, taking it to
4-3 in favour of the French. The 32-year-old hit a blow to Ledovskikh in the next game and served it out at 5-3.
Devilder banged in four aces but also committed the same number of double faults. The Frenchman had a low first serve percentage of 47 but managed to convert 27 of the 35 of them into points. Devilder availed all the four break
chances he got in the match.
The 5ft 8in tall required just an hour and 14 minutes to win the encounter.
