Antonio Veic undoes Andreas Molteni in a one man show in 2nd round – Palermo Challenger 2011
Antonio Veic from Croatia locked horns with the qualifier from Argentina, Andreas Molteni on October 5th in Palermo, Italy. It was a battle between low ranked players and when minnow meets another minnow, it produces
something special but it was completely opposite to the expectations. Veic totally dominated the entire show and cruised to victory with a comprehensive and commanding lead of 6-0 and 6-3. Molteni never settled down and looked a bit tired with his footwork.
The Croat didn’t take long to complete the task and finished it off in an hour and eleven minutes.
The Croat was on top of his game as he nailed Molteni in each department from serves to return shots. Molteni couldn’t manage to win a single game in the first set. Veic was everywhere on the court and the Argentine always found
himself on the wrong side of the court. The Croat won 25 points out of 34 with Molteni scraping together only a meagre nine.
Nothing was going right for Molteni and it continued in the same fashion in the second set. Veic was just teasing Molteni with his classy display which was a treat to watch. Molteni was totally out of form and was miles away from
his supreme touch. It was very astonishing for the viewers because Molteni had been consistent throughout the tournament and a performance like this was incredible for anyone to believe. Molteni only won a single break point in the whole match which was below
par.
Veic was the star performer of the day clinching 64 percent of the points. No player has been that impressive throughout the challenger tournament at any stage. This performance will definitely alarm his upcoming opponents. Fans
are looking forward to this staggering performer to provide such displays in the future. Veic is a promising character and hopes to win this tournament and attain his landmark. Veic will now face the winner of the match between the second seed Carlos Berlocq
and Alessio De-Mauro in the quarterfinals.
