Ants; how to kill the nest?

will Clorox bleach cleaner kill ants? we have a huge nest in our back yard next to our door-

When you attack the nest you are attacking the house, but not the queen inside making all those new babies.  Water, bleach, even diazinon insecticide do nothing against the queen.  Yes, you kill off some, but the rest of them are snug inside.  

You want something that the workers will take back to Her Majesty the Egg Laying machine and feed to her.  That's where certain ant-cides come in.  I like Amdro since it kills those big red biting Harvester ants !!! Curses to them!!!

But if you would rather not go with the big bad boy stuff, you can make your own ant killer with a small jar, holes in the jar, mix some peanutbutter and boric acid  and separately mix jelly and boric acid.  Put each into the jar but don't mix them...or use two different jars. Tape the jars closed but of course leave the holes open on the top...small holes just for ants to pass through  Put the jars in a secure, shady spot where children and animals won't find it.  The ants will find their preferred food, protein or sugar, and take it back to the Queen.

If these are fire ants I fought them with fire.  

Keep the hose handy and wet down the surrounding area, take a blow torch and light the nest on fire.  It will melt down to the ground in about 30 seconds.. they never made a nest next to my house again or hurt my babies!

d**n thats a bit harsh, just put some sugar tainted with Engine Coolant they won't stop eating it because of the sweet taste.

I actually just buy antrid in the supermarket and put some drops where they are going.

It works for me and no mess no fuss as the ants eat it and dissapear as it's supposed to bring the poison back home with them and kill the queen.

We had some in the house and this is what we did.

How serious is your infestation. If you want get some mortien with and extendable spout and spray it down the hole then block it up. On the other hand why don't you give them some sugary bait like honey or something then poison the food. Just some techniques to trap them and poison them. Or alternatively get an exterminator. Im not sure about clorox bleach but if it says "kills ants" then use it! Hope this helps.

carbon dioxide will freeze the nest, the main idea with an ant's nest is to kill the queen and the nest should die out.

If you just spray a nest with a water hose it should be destroyed. Good Luck!
