Ants in my snakes cage???

Question

this morning i woke up and checked my snake because she was sheding last night. I noticed that she had also gone to the bathroom afterward so i took the shed out and it was covered in little black ants!!!!! I WAS SOO MAD!!! I checked her and she was fine so i put her in her holding container and took everything out. they were only on her shed and poo so i cleaned everything and killed all of the ants. they keep comeing through the crack under my window but ive already gone outside and kiled all of them and then half an hour later they are back!!! anyone know if they would hurt her if it happens again while im not home? How do i get rid of them!!!

Is there anything that i can put on the outside of her cage to keep them away???

find where they are coming in and put a puddle of rubbing alchohol down.

or, if you just want them to leave, clean the trail really well with dishsoap and water, and a little bit of baking soda- they follow a scent trail. when it is gone, they stop, as long as no other ants that went that way go back out after that( and leave a new trail), you should be fine

you can go to wall mart and get ant traps or you could go to the pet store get a thing called silicon (it's in a tube) and seal the crack with it and make sure there are none left in the room

sounds like sugar ants...they can be paesky little things....

be careful in what you are using to kill the ants you dont want to be spraying a bunch of chemicals around your snake.

Also if they keep coming in the same spot you could cover that spot with some petroleum jelly or vaseline...if you cant do that rub it all around the bottom of the cage...the ants get stuck to it and cant get in the cage....

also you could move the tank...far enough away from where the ants are coming in...try another room for a few days until you get the ants taken care of....and yes if the ants started biting the snake it could cause some damage.

The vaseline doesnt stink so it cant be inhaled by your snake and it wont hurt if he gets it on his skin so thats probably your best bet if you cant move him.

hey, sounds like you got a nasty little problem!  First of all I do not think the ants will hurt her, but who wants ants crawling all over them anyways.  You can do one of two things.  First of all you can put some cornmean in your window seal.  The ants eat the corn meal, carry some back to the nest and it will eventually rupture their tummies bc it swells when they eat it.  OR you can go to a store and buy this ant killer.  I do not know the name of it but it comes in like a tube or syringe thing.  Most of the time the poison is clear or has a slight discolored look to it.  You can put like 1-2 drops in each corner of your window and that will kill the ants I promise.  That stuff works good, just make sure not to get it around other animals!  Good Luck!
