Question:

Ants in the House! How do I get rid of them?

Whenever it rains ants start coming into the house and I have no idea where they are coming from. They usually end up in the kitchen or front hallway. I've tried vinegar, cinnamon, bay leaf, soap...it seems to work at first but then they laugh it off and bring more of their friends in. It's also hard to sprinkle cinnamon when I don't know where their nest or entrance is. Is there a more permanent solution? I would prefer to not use some industrial strength toxins.

thanks!

  1. ant traps or they may also be called ant stations, from most DIY stores, little round discs with holes in, i don't quite no how it works but just place one  on the floor when you think they are coming in give it a few days and you won't see another one.

    they worked for me

  2. try sugar. you forgot that one.

  3. I have the same problem. I use Ortho Home Defense Max. It comes in a jug with a trigger sprayer and is not real expensive. I spray all around the outside of the house and inside. I still get them but not nearly as bad but a least now I can keep them at bay.

  4. hire a trained exterminator. That is what i did. He (or she) will answer all of your questions.

Also to prevent other intruders in the future, plant mint (the herb) where the exterminator says they are coming from. Ants HATE mint. they wont go near it!

  5. When we moved in to our place we had the same issue, if we left a CRUMB on the counter they swarmed, best thing is to get some ant bait, leave it in places they normally go, so long as its out of reach of kids and pets, then they take the poison back to the queen, she eats it and dies. wait about a week or two after putting out the bait, move it outside and spray the exterior of your house, including windows, with a good, long lasting pest control spray. leave the bait outside for awhile to make sure you can get rid of the nest(s). good luck.

  6. Use a mix of cinnamon and sugar. The ants will pick up the sugar, along with the cinnamon, and take it back to their queen. Ants can’t digest cinnamon and once the queen dies from not being able to digest the cinnamon the colony will die without her.  This is a way to not know where they are coming from and still kill them.  They are attracted to the sugar and will carry back the cinnamon too.

  7. Hot boiling water!!!!!  Simple and works

  8. A simple borax and sugar solution works and they are attracted to sweet stuff and will carry it back to the colony where the borax will knock them off.

I use a premade kit called Terro Ant Killer baits in an orange box.

  9. fire, just put random places in fire, the ants will be scared, some will start crying so prepare for some serious emotion sh*t. But when the scaring and crying is over they will run away... Trust me it works, I did it to...

  10. cayenne pepper, bowl of white vinegar (although I see you tried that) check out the links below for more...

  11. well i know a couple of summers ago we had a cook pest control come out and he put this stuff on the places we had ants and they haven't come back sense

  12. we had same problem last year and this year till i went to the diy store and got some ant bait it comes in a circular plastic thing, if u get two put one in the kitchen where u see them most and one in front hallway then it should stop them also u can use antibacterial flea powder they hate that too. the ant bait stuff they take back to the nest. any pets dont bother with it either both the cat and dog didnt.
