Anup Sridhar, Sai Praneeth advance to second stage of qualifying round in India Open Super Series
India’s Anup Sridhar and Sai Praneeth B. have booked their places in the second stage of the men’s singles qualifying round after beating their compatriots in the India Open Super Series 2011.
Anup defeated Vikram Saini in straight games, whereas Praneeth tamed Gupta Manish in similar fashion on Tuesday.
Anup opened his campaign in a relaxed way as he was facing an inexperienced compatriot. Vikram played good badminton in the first half of the set against the experienced opponent and reached 7-7, where Anup geared up his speed and established an 11-7 lead.
After the 60-second break, Anup extended his lead by dictating the pace of the rallies. Vikram worked hard to reduce the difference but failed as Anup was playing a better game. Anup clinched the first set with a 21-14 margin in just 12 minutes.
In the second set, Vikram failed to play better as he made many mistakes. Anup spared no chance for the younger compatriot to fight back in the game. He spent only 9 minutes to win the second game with a surprising margin of 21-8. The final score of the
21-minute battle was 21-14 and 21-8.
In another qualifying-round match, Sai Praneeth crushed his younger opponent in straight sets. Manish found himself quite helpless against the experienced opponent. In the first half of the opening set, Praneeth was ahead at 11-2. After the break, he stretched
his lead and won the first set with a stunning margin of 21-5 in just 8 minutes.
In the second set, Manish tried to gear up his speed but failed to control the bird. He remained struggling to return the powerful strokes of the opponent. Praneeth quickly reached 7-1 by playing at great speed. At the end of the first part of the set, he
was leading with a big margin of 11-3.
In the second part of the set, Praneeth continued his impressive run against Manish and grabbed the set with a big difference of 21-7 in just 10 minutes. The final score of this one-sided 18-minute match was 21-5 and 21-7.
