Anup Sridhar tames Igor Jenny in pre-quarter-final of Maldives International Badminton Challenge
India’s experienced player Anup Sridhar showed his elevated craft in the court as he surged into Men’s Singles quarter-final after taming Switzerland’s Igor Jenny at the Maldives International Badminton Challenge 2012 in Maldives, on Thursday, May 31.
Anup, who is number four seed in Men’s Singles main draw of the tournament, was too strong for his lower ranked rival as he finished up the contest easily with a one-sided margin.
The higher ranked Anup, who has been struggling hard to find a good flow for the last one year, played in an impressive fashion as he played with impressive aggression and won the battle in straight games by taking just 27 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Igor could not play dominating badminton in the entire competition and also failed to stop the aggressive run of his Indian rival and lost the battle with a completely one-sided score on the board.
In the first game, Anup started his run in the competition in a dominating and commanding manner as he played with tremendous precision and managed to earn a wonderful lead at the initial stage.
He did not miss any chance of extending the gap on the score board and took an impressive lead until the mid-game interval.
After the break, the Indian shuttler continued his positive performance in the court without losing his control over the pace of rallies and bagged the set with a superb 21-9 score on the board.
In the second game, Igor tried to play positive badminton in opening rallies but failed to tackle the attacking play of his Indian opponent.
He also committed many unforced mistakes which helped Anup to take a comfortable advantage in the game until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Anup did not let his opponent to find a good flow by keeping the pace high. He continued playing attacking game and easily wrapped up second game with a thrashing 21-6 score on the board.
The in-form Anup emerged as the winner against Igor in straight games of 27 minutes with a completely one-sided margin of 21-9 and 21-6.
