In Guinea pigs, rough coat (R) is dominant over a smooth coat (r). A heterozygous guinea pig (Rr) and a homozygous recessive guinea pig (rr) have a total of 8 offspring. Explain your results. Use a punnett square to substantiate your results.

  1. on cross'g Rr & rr we get only 2 genotype or 2 phenotype such as Rr {rough type} & rr {smooth coat type}. all the 8 offsprings belong 2 such genotype & phenotype only.

    A cross between these will yield Rr, Rr which will be heterozygous for the trait. Genotype Rr  and phenotype rough coat.  The second will be rr and phenotype willbe smooth coat.  Both the genotypes will be 50% each.
