Question:

Anxiety about back to school?

I got my first panic attack about a month ago in summer school. I've tried to relax the rest of my vacation but I continued to have nausea and anxiety. Now, whenever I think about going back to school, I freak out.

Does anyone have any advice to help overcome anxiety?

(I've already tried the deep-breathing and take mind off it)

  2. i always have that before school take deep breathes relax and take it step by step. that's what i do. Good luck!  

  3. Everyone has to go through school. Your parents, the president, Bill Gates, hey, even Led Zeppelin. Everyone goes through it. It can be stressful, but image how relieved you'll be when your done school, and you'll be very grateful you remained in school. Take a few deep breathes, relax, calm down, and realize everyone went through it. Now it's your turn :)

  4. You need to figure out why you're so scared to go back.

    Are you afraid of the people who are at school? Or the courses? Or maybe parents expectations? Once you isolate your exact fear you will be able to figure out how to deal with it.

    If you're afraid of the people you need to figure out why. If it's the academic aspect, maybe you can take lower level classes or maybe you have unreal expectations for yourself.

    Just remember, once you're out of high school (which I'm assuming you're in) no one will know care who you were then. You were unpopular? People at your new university/job don't care! You had low grades? You get to start fresh at university! Clean slate!

    High school can be very stressful but you'll soon forget any bad memories you had once you're in the adult world. :)

  5. i'm the same way. we started back a few weeks ago and the stress of social anxiety amde me get really sick, which is why i'm not at school right now. it kidna sucks, cause i've already missed a couple of days for the same reason. no dout i'm behind now....

    anyway, just don't think about it. school's school, there's no getting out of it, it's something u have to do. when i go back, i'm going to talk to the counsulear about virtual school, it's where u take ur classes online and don't have to go to school for them. maybe try to see if ur school has something like that?

    just stick close to ur friends and don't worry. i used to throw up everyyear before the first day, this year i felt like it but didn't, talking to my gf before i left really helped with that.

    if you want to, why not go to a therapist or something? i personally despise them, but that's just me. it might help.

  6. Try to clarify what aspect of going back to school scares you or gives you anxiety. Then try addressing that specific aspect and what you can productively do to resolve it.

  7. I do not know how old you are but try talking with a school counselor or even the family doctor. some people just have panic attacks and they would know more about what to do than any of us. Medicine is an alternative but maybe there is something else they can offer.

  8. take some meds, like paxil or zoloft.
