I have been suffering from anxiety and depression through out my life, i have been divorced now for 3 years and am now getting over a very long prozac spell that has helped me out through some tough times but i realise this is not a long term solution to getting better.

My social phobia is getting worse but i am determind to conquer this for my sons sake . Is there anything out there were I can learn about minimising my anxiety levels with out the use of drugs.

  1. Hi dorothy.

Is there any way of councelling? I think ways out are probably either drugs or councelling. You can also learn to council yourself. I know this sounds weird but it's like getting yourself in the right mindset. Sorry I couldn't right a lot. But I think Sarah J's answer is very good. Wish I could help more.

    Good luck,

  2. most of the time people with depression problems dont have the right amount of certain chemicals in their brains. the medications prescribed often replace whatever it is they are lacking, and they feel better. and yes, sometimes drugs are a permanent thing. if you have any other illness, say you are anemic, you take a supplement to make you feel better. if you are diabetci, you dont produce enough insulin, you take the drugs to replace what you are lacking. mental illness is no different than any other disease. if you need medication to make yourself better, so be it-dont start trying to go without medication if you need it-you may end up making yourself sicker-i think staying on your medication is probably the best thing you can do for your child. my husband and son both have mental illnesses, and they will need medication all their lives-thank god the medication makes them better- thats what you should think too-dont feel guilty about taking something that helps you, there is no shame in taking a medication. god bless you.

  3. Hi Dorothy

I feel what you are going through and there is light at the end of the tunnel for any one that wants to take the next step.

I find anxiety, depression and feeling scared are all part of the same symptoms although there are not enough people out there that really understand it and its complexity but i found one site that seems to really tackle the specifics of the problem. I think deep down it comes down to self esteem and being able to progress and move forwards. The only thing out there that i have seen that tackles these issues is the http://www.thelindensmethod.com/ .

It really does hit the spot, I got the dvd and package way back 4 months ago and some of the tips that i uncovered in addressing your own body balance and what foods we eat really does have an effect on us. We have to teach our minds new habits and new ways of thinking.

One of the many tips i have learned in reducing anxiety from the dvd is drinking 4 cups of cammomile tea a day, also with the same cobination of healthy foods especially ones with vitamin B6 works wonders over time.

Charles Linden use to be an anxiety sufferer he suffered from panic attacks, social phobia, low self esteem, depression you name it the list goes on. The one hope we all have is that he has conquered alot of his phobias and anxietys this is why he developed a program to help people.

What ever you do just understand the is hope and options out there for everyone. Keep learning and keep growing ;).

    Good luck

  4. Get physical exercise and eat healthy (fruits, vegetables, and grains).  And find a support group.

  6. Anxiety and depression factor a huge part of my life too. I am also on prozac and also take Lorazepam. I am also 18 weeks pregnant so am on lower doses of my meds however have such bad anxiety that I cant eat unless on medication because my anxiety gets so bad so my doctor has put me back on my medications. My anxiety is also getting worse and I am determined to conquer it for my unborn babies sake. I have books that I got at Borders and Barnes and Noble on Anxiety and things that help. They also have workbooks and what not. my advice to you would be to go to a book store and stock up on some books. Reading these when you are anxious will also help you in those times of need when your anxiety is horrible. Im sorry about your divorce and I'm sure that hasnt helped much. Good luck on conquering this horrible illness!! :)

  7. I felt the same way!

Please take this into consideration. It worked for me, although I am not you.

I had overwhelming anxiety. It turned out to be my use of Splenda. Yup Splenda. How could something that taste so good, be so bad?

I like to say sucralose, not Splenda, because that is what Splenda is. And it is in a lot of stuff. The package doesn't have to say Splenda to have sucralose

in it. You have to read labels. So, you might still be using it and don't even know it!

Sucralose is poison. It ruined five years of my life. I had a laundry list of medical problems while taking it, including overwhelming anxiety, depression,

    mood swings, insomnia and more.

Go ahead, google: anxiety splenda or anxiety sucralose or insomnia splenda or insomnia sucralose

The slogan, "Made from sugar..." is very misleading. Splenda might be made from sugar, but it is far from sugar. The resulting chemical is an organochloride

    (chlorocarbon). Organochlorides are typically poisons.

carbon monoxide - made from oxygen so its like a breath of fresh air
