Anxiety/communication problems?

okay i have anxiety which is controlled by pills, but i'm also really shy and nervy, the hardest problem is, is that i find it the most difficult thing in the world to react properly to things, to think of something to say or to be good to talk to in a conversation, i just cant communicate properly, could anyone tell me some tips to help me make a good conversation and be able to communicate better, at the moment people just think I'm a freak.

  1. Well, what type of medication do you take and how often?  Do you have specific anxiety attacks and you take the pills as needed for that or is a generalized anxiety disorder or a social phobia? Who prescribes your pills - family Dr or Psychiatrist?  Ask them for a referral to a counsloe which can help you with this anxiety and feelings if insecurity. a counselor will help you realize your fears, explore your thoughts and thought process, and help you slowly set up situations in which you will interact with others slowly?  As of right now, try talking about general topics or even just saying, "hi, how are you?" to people until you feel comfortable with that. Do you thing you have problems communicating becuase you fear you may have an anxiety attack?  I have panick attacks and I am a mental health counselor so I understand what you are going through. I work with many people with anxiety. I also know that many times it is my irrational thoughts and self esteem that make me nervous in social situations, especially if I am having an anxiety attack.  


  2. I also have anxiety disorder, so I know what you're dealing with. I handle social situations by forcing myself out of my shell. I pull out an outgoing personality utilizing the "fake it till you make it" philosophy. You'd be amazed how well this works. Not only do you fool all the other people, you actually fool yourself. Try it.
