  1. I'm on Citalopram, they might give you that, or Venlafaxine. It can take a while though for the medication to work properly, and sometimes it gets worse before that. Go back to your doctor and ask them for advice.

  2. Top contributer is right! get off the anti anxiety meds they can lead to suicide or death, (it caused me to atttempt) he might try giving you Xanax or ativan, but if you get this, stay below .5 mg, .25 if possible, because you will become addicted and it will affect your life. if we can do without the meds so can you! good luck my friend

  3. They'll all make you feel disconnected.

  4. I hope you are taking medication and getting talk therapy as well. Using just meds for anxiety is like putting just a bandaid on a badly infected wound, it's just a coverup.  I'm not talking about the occasional anxiety everyone gets. Nothing "cures" an anxiety disorder entirely because your brain is wired for it. These words are from my psychiatrist who is also a psychopharmacologist and a neuropsychiatrist in NYC. Meds and therapy do help alleviate it and help you to live less anxiously and more productively.

All the anti anxiety meds that are purely for anxiety, except one, carry a potential for addiction, so a good doctor does not want his patient on them for too long, another reason to also be in therapy either with your Dr. or a therapist.

The only med I spoke of is Buspar, but like any med for ANY illness, not just mental illness, it helps some but not all. It has helped me. It is an inexpensive med, as are most meds for anxiety that have been out a long time.

The only down side about Buspar is that it usually takes about 2 weeks to kick in, sometimes less sometimes more. The other anxiety meds usually work with just a few doses, so if you try Buspar, you have to be patient, not easy, but if it works it's worth it.

I am not endorsing Buspar for you, just giving you some med education. speak with your Dr., she and you know you best!

    Much luck! Don't forget therapy.

  5. Hey, I know how frustrated you must be. The guys telling

you to go off meds, well I don't agree. If you are having panic

attacks it is an awful feeling and makes it hard to function.

I wonder if wellbutrin or prozac would help. Welbutrin helps

with social anxiety too. I know with the seratraline I had to

be on it a few weeks at first. I may be used to that feeling

of disconnect?? I don't agree you need therapy either

necessarily. If you just have low Serotonine levels there

is nothing wrong with you except that and that has nothing

to do with your having mental problems it's just a biological

imbalance. You will get the right drug just be honest with your

doctor. Hope you got back in school. I will be praying for

    you :) God BLess You

  6. You need to get off the pills. That's just the easy way out for the docs because they don't fully understand anxiety, so they write you for a drug, and send you on your way.

You will soon become dependent on them and their affect (if they're even working) will soon wear off. You may suffer from withdrawal, but in the end, it will be worth it.
