Okay, so I already asked this question, but am trying to see if I can reach anymore of you. I got a really good answer yesterday, but just want some more perspectives.

I just want to know what it has been like for you and what you recommend and all the good stuff. Tell me ALL about it. Whatever you think would be important for a person to know who is thinking of doing the Italy thing -- for more than just a vacation.

Thank you all and I look forward to hearing from you.

Watch this flash for a good idea of what to expect. It is exaggerated, but based on the truth.

Also, expect slow and confusing bureaucracy. It is not that the Italian are unorganized. It is that they are over organized and have too many different divisions of bureaucracy. Plus, work ethic is not the same. When asked how many people work in the Vatican, Pope John XXIII quipped "About half."

Amercian personal space: key concept to be respected!

Italian personal space: "What's personal space?"

    Riposo in the afternoon: it's a fact of life between 1:00 and 3:00 - 3:30 sometimes 4:00.

Edit: Re Alessandro cj (thanks for the correction... I was over generalizing): Not all but, a good number of shops close at one on Saturday and don't reopen after riposo (I live near Cavaleggeri). Few are open on Sunday

Trains! Fairly reliable and efficient. One of the good things about the fascist regime of the 20's through the 40's was it modernized the railroad.

  3. My Dad was in the military and we lived in Vicenza Italy.  Italy STOLE my heart!  I plan on working hard on a saving money to move to Italy.

The thing about Italy is that it's hard to find a home there.  You should visit Italy...spend a month touring the whole country and fine one city you really like.  Contact the embassy to see what is required for you to move there.  I'm sure they'll hook you up with all the information you need.

I will be returning to Napoli...so I can hang out in Positano.

    I LOVE ITALY!!!!!!
