I think that is what I want to do. So if anyone has this major, what kind of job did you get from it. Do you like it? Any info would be great :)

  1. I majored in anthropology with a heavy emphasis on the biological sciences.  Afterwards, I completed my Masters in Public Administration (MPA) and I am currently a strategic planner in public health where I work with executive leaders and public health managers to develop health plans for people across my state; I work with stakeholders from a variety of medical, nursing, and pharmaceutical organizations to develop plans that impact hundreds of thousands of people.  I also help develop health policies; and, I study organizational issues involving department processes (i.e., management analysis).

My advice for you is to plan on completing some kind of graduate or professional training--i.e., graduate school, law school, medical school, etc.  The reason for this is that you do not come out with an undergraduate degree in anthropology that is specific and technically-oriented to make you competitive in the job market.  So, graduate/professional training will provide you with the right edge to compete.

The anthropology courses will certainly provide you with a holistic approach to understanding human beings, in general, that will make you an interesting candidate for graduate or professional schools.  I am very grateful for having had the opportunity to study anthropology; it is a fascinating field that is unique, yet incorporates information from a variety of disciplines including geography, geology, biology, sociology, politics, economics, art, history, linguistics, music, and much more.

    Good luck!

  2. I received a double major in anthropology and biology. With it I went to medical school and am currently studying medicine. Anthropology gave me a great understanding of how humans evolved in addition to knowledge of ancient societies and the varied human culture and customs that exist. Basically if you study anthropology you will be great in understanding everything that makes us human. One suggestion is to make sure you take enough biological anthropology classes, sometimes the cultural ones can skew your understanding of human nature if you do not have a broader understanding of human evolution.
