  1. I am still shocked. I remember watching the games with him and his son calling the games. I was just so use to his voice and now hearing about him passing away, watching the Braves will never be the same.

  2. :(

    :(

RIP Skip - you were the man and will be missed....

I bet Harry & Skip are calling games in heaven right about now....what a team

  3. Not a Braves fan but lived in Atlanta for 16 years and yes I'm sad to see him go.  He was a very good broadcaster and a piece of the Atlanta Braves...

He died in the afternoon, not the morning

  4. Such a loss for the whole baseball community. Skip will be missed.

  5. Skip Carey was an outstanding announcer.  I'm shocked to hear he has passed away.  Although he was a Bravo through and through, he treated all players with respect, showed great knowledge of our greatest game and was d**n funny.  Back in the days of Pat Rockett, Rick Camp, Biff Pocoroba and the other journeymen who toiled in those years, he was always funny, always a joy to listen to.  I remember one year (probably 1978 or so) the Bravos were being manhandled by the hated Big Red Machine and Skip announced the "Official Take The Dog For A Walk Time" had arrived...

    Thanks Skip.  You were great.

  6. Oh babe I am so sorry for your loss, big hugs for you.

  7. not a braves fan, but i heard it during the cards game and its a great loss, he was a fantastic broadcaster

  8. Yes there are fans mourning his passing. He was a great announcer for the Braves, made my childhood a little better listening to the Braves games on TBS. He will be missed. RIP.

  9. Whoa!! Skip died??!? WTF? When did that happen...?

...yeah, he'll be missed... he was a great broadcaster

  10. This is the first I have heard of this story, and plus he would have turned 69 on August 12th, and I see that he went to take a nap, and couldn't wake up. And he died younger then his father Harry Caray did, so poor Chip Caray, so I have feel sorry for him and the rest of his family. And now after there have been a time where there was was 3 Carays in baseball, Harry, Skip and Chip, now Chip has to Caray on. Oaky, I will get back to being serious now, but I will murn his death, even if I am not a Braves fan, it is said when anybody dies, whether or not you were a fan of that person. But I have included the story from the Braves' website, in case anybody wants to check it out. And the headline reads that Baseball Mourns loss of Skip Caray. And he was one of the reason why Chip Caray, left the Cubs to join the Braves in 2005. And now Chip Caray now has to follow in the footsteps of Joe Buck, and not have a father around anymore. So farewell Skip Caray, and I hope that you are now up there reunited with Harry Caray, and you will keep your eyes on Chip Caray and the Altanta Braves.

  11. I remember listening to him and Pete VanWieren and Ernie Johnson.  To me, they were what made baseball for me.  I started pitching the year I first heard them because they made it sound so interesting. That was back in the days of Dale Murphy, Bruce Benedict, Claudell Washington, Rafael Ramirez, Chris Chambliss, Glen Hubbard, Bob Horner, Phil Niekro and many many others.  Joe Torre was managing at the time.

I was broken hearted when TBS quit doing Braves only games.  My mother has been an avid Braves fan because of listening to Skip one night when nothing else was on tv 20 some odd years ago.

Strange thing was, we were in Chicago this weekend doing Cubs stuff and went to Harry Caray's tavern, took pics all over the place etc.  But yesterday as we were taking the river tour in Chi, all I could think of was Skip.  He will be missed dearly.  He passed this afternoon while napping.  He had almost died over the winter but bounced back.  He died from complications from diabetes.

  12. I'm not a Braves fan, but still think it's a tremendous loss. I always enjoyed listening to Skip, and while certainly his last name maybe helped him a bit early on, I always appreciated the fact that he was not just a clone of his father, that he developed his own style. He will be missed by more then just the Braves and their fans.

P.S. - I wonder how long it will take for Milo Hamilton to say something incredibly stupid about him?

  13. Yes, we are here. Have missed him for a year since TBS went to their ESPN format, becoming the Yankee/Red Sox station.

  14. I cried, for the first time in years...I'm gonna miss his rants about the Ga Dept. of transportaion.
