I'm Irish so I'm Celtic and I am extremely interested in my heritage and culture, I hope to compile the Celtic legends to make a Druidic sacred text and would really like to see a revival of the Celtic Culture in the six nations so if there are any like minded Celts ot there put your hands up

  1. You need to look at DNA studies! The English technically should count as well, since at least half have pre-Saxon genetics, particularly on the maternal side! (And many Scots on places like Orkney have more Viking heritage than celtic!)

And then you've got to think of by what we mean by 'celtic'.traditionally the celts are supposed to have come from around hallstatt in Austria. Those celts are NOT the ancestors of people in Britain, ireland & Brittany--our dna does NOT match theirs. There was NO mass invasion of mid-European celts into the British Isles, and certainly not into Ireland--archaeologists suspected this for some years, but dna has proved it. The celtic era primarily grew  out of the preceding bronze age, and it looks like the celtic  languages might well have arrived as far back as the neolithic.

And where did the early people who lived in Britain & Ireland come from?- the best match genetically is for the Basques of Spain. Several thousand years later groups of farmers came out of the near east and settled too-these people were your megalith builders. The dna of these 2 groups still overwhelm anything else.

so technically we are more culturally celtic than genetically (if you think of celts as mid-European.) Some archaeologists like the term 'Atlantic celts' for us, as the movement of our peoples was along the Atlantic seaboard.

  2. by Celts , do you mean the people of Celts culture (Irish,Scotish,Wales,Breton) or the people of Celts ancestries (French,English,Spanish etc..)?
