Any Engineers willing to talk to me?

I've always thought about being an engineer, most likely a computer engineer, but my problem is I don't really know what an engineer does.

I try to read about it on the internet but all I read is blah, blah, blah.

Is it just I'm not interested in being an engineer or what?

I just really want to know exactly what an engineer does, not just hearing the same old "programming and designing". What exactly are you programming or designing?

I just want to talk one on one wit someone who can answer my questions. I have alot and I just want to see if this is the right field for me.

I don't want to persue it in college and show that it's not really what I wanted and I waste my years doing something I didn't want to do.

Just please if there is anyone who can help me please email me. I need help on finding out what I want to do with my future.

  1. Engineers solve technical  problems in industry.

  2. No - my ideas are mine! :D

  3. Engineers solve problems. They follow a method for identifying a problem, defining it, brainstorming ideas, testing those ideas, then developing a solution and testing that solution.

They follow the same method, whether for computer systems, software, buildings, medical instruments, space ships, automobiles, materials design, factory machines. Engineering is a discipline that requires good understanding of math, science, physics, and people. The math starts at calculus and works up to higher levels.

I suggest you ask your friends to find out whose father or mother or brother or sister is an engineer. Then talk to them.

Also, talk to your high school counselor about engineering. THEY know people who can talk to you, and take you to workplaces so you can understand the whole picture.

VISIT any local college campus where engineering is taught. Take the campus tour, and the engineering school tour--they have these specifically for people like you.

If, after you make the effort to use the resources readily available to you, you discover all you hear is blah, blah, blah, then you should consider some other type of study.
