Question:

Any European holiday destinations recommended for a family?

I'm thinking of going on holiday this summer with my sister and parents (we're all over 21), but we don't want to spend too much and would only limit the holiday to a European country.

Where do you recommend that we go (for a week), and why?

Please give details so I can start researching.

Thanks!

PS: We don't want to go clubbing or anything, it's going to be a nice family holiday.

  1. I think Salou in Spain is fantastic.

If you stay in Hotels such as the Eurosalou or California Palace (not to be confused with California Garden) then you will be down the more Spanish end of town with lots of nice little Spanish bars and restaurants and nice shops.

You also have the more tacky British end of town which is good for a night out and is only a 20 minute walk or a 5 minute taxi ride from these hotels.

The seafront is beautiful with lots of fountains and the beaches are soft sand and gently sloping.

You also have the Aquapolis waterpark in neighbouring La Pineda and the PortAventura theme park / Costa Caribe Waterpark on the outskirts of Salou itself.

Salou is also joined on to the resort of Cambrils which is famous throughout Spain for its seafood restaurants.

As I say Salou has the tacky Brit end which is good for a visit but the older Spanish end is much more pleasant to stay in and the locals are also very friendly.

Wherever you decide to go, I hope you enjoy your holiday.

  2. Go some where in England there are some great holiday destinations. Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and the Isle of Wight are all good.

  3. Protaras, Cyprus is a great family resort. Many of the hotels are right on the beach of Fig Tree Bay and Flamingo Bay, and all are within easy walking distance of shops, bars and restaurants. Everything you need, all in one area. The beaches are very nicand clean, and there are some great places to eat out too.

From here, should you want a change, it is just a short drive / bus ride/ taxi trip away from Agia Napa....and, no, don't beleive all you hear....its not all clubs, booze cruises and lager louts! There are some great beaches in Agia Napa, and some great bars and restaurants too. Agia Napa also has Europes largest waterpark!! You can also take a leisurely boat trip form the harbour ( leaves about 11.00.am) this takes you along the coastline, past Cavo Greko, Konnos Bay, Protaras, Pernera, and finally., Kapparis, where on reaching the ghost town of Famagusta, the boat turns around and heads back for Agia Napa Harbour ( the boat stops off twice on the way for people to swim from the boat.) All this for just a couple of Euros....bargain!!

Its very hot here at the moment, around 35C....we havent had any substantial rain for nearly two years, and though we are struggling with our water supplies, this isn't affecting the tourist industry in any way.

  4. Hi ya, well I may be a bit biast here but I would recommend Salou, it is only in Costa Daurada in Spain, I fly from Luton to Reus quite often, takes only 2 hours and when in Reus it is only 15 minutes to Salou, well if you are going with a tour operator it could take about 35 minutes by the time they drop everyone else off. It has a lovely beach stretching a very long way with lovely sand, you also have Portaventura theme park and water park not far either. The nightlife is for all people, young, old and families, with lots of pubs full of english, irish and scottish for families, including ones with karaoke, which is really funny. You can search the internet for cheap deals with tour operators or go yourself and hire a car, last time i went I hired a car on the internet from Reus airport for 10 days for 157 euros, so not bad. There is also Cap Salou about 15 minutes down the road for the quiter holiday and Barcelona just over an hour away on the train for 12 euros return. Hope this helps

  5. I don't know where you come from, what about Sweden? If you are looking for a place to relax go there.

You'll find a country with a wonderful nature (all Sweden, but especially in the north). It's not as expensive to hire a hut (stuga) there (when you do this directly from the owner).

I recommend Värmland - there are many woods and lakes and even a fjäll (Hovfjäll).

If you like fishing, wandering or canoeing or just enjoying the silence it's the right place for you.

  6. Prague in the Czech Republic is lovely, just stay away from Wenceslas Square. I've been there twice and never had any hassle from stag parties or the like.

Also nice is Budapest, was there in the winter. Would like to return in the autumn, but not this year.

Whichever one you choose, get a copy of the DK Eyewitness Guide to the city, and read it carefully. It's probably the best guide on the market, I have a whole collection of them from all the places I've been to, and no, I don't work for the publisher!

  7. I would say Spain. This country has lots to offer. From colorful beaches(and i mean really different sand colors-swear!), great shopping offers, very cheap car hire. Very perfect,,,, from adventure activities to just a tranquil day out on a beach. Looking at the sunset holding hands. Just Perfect! Whoa!

  8. Czech republic. There are not only famous historic places like Prague (Praha), Kutna Hora, Karlovy Vary and Cesky Krumlov. There are other many interesting places - monuments (some of them UNESCO), muzeums, nature, good food, Bohemian beers and Moravian wines etc.

I think it's quite cheap in comparison with neighbour states. You can get almost everywhere with train or bus, so you needn't to rent a car.

    Any other questions?

  9. Switzerland or Austria, stay on a farm, taste the regional food all day long, go to swim in the lakes, check for caves and castles, maybe do some horseback riding, hike the mountains and visit the huts there as well as historical sights in villages or a town nearby.

Beautiful nature, fresh air, original traditional food and real people. :-)

  10. Go to New York City or Florida! The dollar is very low now! You can get so much more with your Euros!!!

  11. If you believe that the UK is not part of Europe, then I suppose Deon and Cornwall or the Lake District are out. But the UK is an European country, and you will find that it has lots to offer.

But if you mean continental Europe, then what about the Loire region of France. Hire a gite or a campsite and you can have a wonderful time in the sun and enjoy great food and wine.
