I bought a freshwater angelfish today it is not eating at all and opens and close his mouth very fast all the time and he's always at the top of the tank. I have 10 other fish in there and they are all doing pretty good and eating well except for the angelfish. i'm getting disappointed because i've spent alot on it...so what's wrong, what should i do?

  1. Any time you add or move a fish, they stress out, many act the way your angel fish is acting, many look like they are dying, but it is caused by the shock of being transported from one tank to another. Fish also lose thier slime coat in transportation, use Stress Zyme to replenish his slime and all should be good. Give the guy a couple of days, separate him if he should start to be picked on, some fish can be bullies and if they see a weak fish they can kill it by picking at it, causing more stress to the fish. Good luck.

  2. I agree with Cat. Give him some time. Most angelfish are shy at first. Dont know the size of the tank but do you have an airpump in there? If the tank is small and over crowded their may not be enough oxygen.

  3. How did you introduce it to the tank? Was it very sudden? Test the water quality just in case. Fish can go into shock if they're introduced into a new tank too quickly.

If all tests come back fine, turn the lights off and leave the fish over night, see how it is in the morning and let it settle. It will take several weeks for a fish to settle into a new tank.
