okay, here's the story. i play on a soccer team in a leauge, and basically our team is in last place...only because we got off to a shakey start. we tied the all of the other teams except the third place team. we beat the second last place team so i know we have potential. but then the second last team moved up a spot and now are third last and were facing them today. i'm not the regular goalie, i used to last year but i didn't play for so long so at the beggining of the season, my goalie skills were really rusty and they put someone else in net and i played mid. but now our goalie is in quebec because of a family emegency so i'm forced to play net. i'm kinda nervous cause if i s***w this one up, i'll ruin our chances of moving up to fourth place. so anyone got any useful advice? thanks, i apprechiate it.

  1. When the ball comes at you try to block it

  2. The first piece if advice is that it's called goalkeeping, not goaltending - that's a hockey term.

The second is to learn from this man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBrp3sKtR...

It's mainly about positioning yourself well, and narrowing the angle for the shot to make it more difficult for the strikers. Being able to read the game and anticipate is as important (if not more so) than athleticism and agility.

See how Schmeichel spreads himself and makes himself "bigger" to intimidate the forwards. These are the most effective things you can do, but correct timing is crucial.

  3. Don't let the other team get the ball in your net.

    sorry, I had to XD

  4. Just go out there, do your best, and have fun.

Don't forget to keep an eye out for the open man that they could pass to! I don't know the level of the league (obviously), but that was always my problem when I was goalie (a *way* back in the day).
