  1. Keep your head down and steady. On short putts wait for the sound of the ball hitting the bottom of the cup, before you look up.

  2. Try putting one handed. My distance control is much better with one hand for some reason.

  3. The key to putting is staying on your target line. Your target line is simply the straight line in which you want the ball to go. You want your putter to go straight behind the ball in order to stay on the target line. A good drill to practice this is take two phone books and place them slightly further apart than your putter. place a ball in between the two books and putt focusing on not hitting the sides of the books. Also when reading the greens don't simply aim for the hole pick one spot on the green based on where you think the ball will roll. It helps if you pick a divot or any other mark on the green. Also when practicing before a round I suggest putting at a tee in the practice green. Doing so will make the actual hole seem huge and it will not put the image of the ball missing the hole in your mind before your round.

  5. Well, 3 Putt, there are a lot of things you can do to get better at putting. The best thing you can do is hit the practice green. Spend a couple of hours there. Start with short putts and get some success under your belt. The more successes the better your confidence. The better your confidence the better your putting.

Start with 3 foot shots from every angle to the hole. Sink three putts in a row from all spots. Then go out to 5 feet and repeat.

You need to learn your distance; how far back and forward your stroke needs to travel for different distances on a level area. Once you know how to hit a 5 foot, 10 foot, 25 foot, etc. length putt, you can start working on the uphill and downhill putts. Learn those distances as well.

Reading greens is a whole lesson in itself. Too much to discuss here. Check out the link below.

  6. Well, the thing is to try to have the face of the putter square at impact, you can be a straight back and through guy, or an arc guy, but you must have the face square to your line at impact, also try to keep your head down when you putt, you may want to try hitting 3-4 foot putts and not lift your head up but listen to see if they go in.  Also, distace is slightly more important than direction...a putt hit short will never get in the hole, try using a ladder drill, you can go golf.com or golfdigest.com both excellent putting vids and articles for free.  Good luck to you.

  7. Keep your head and spine still, rock your shoulders back and through, and most importantly, maintain a firm left wrist with the back of your left hand going down your putting line. Write this down and take it with you and when you start to s***w up read and re-read these tips.

  8. Well, whichever the problem is, I am sure you will find at least some usefull tips here:

  9. I've been putting much better (25-28 putts per round) since I've started doing two things: Trusting my first impression of the line, and not spending much time over the putt.

With practice on the practice green -- only working on speed and how the feel of particular distances are -- you should have a good idea of what gets the ball to roll a certain distance.  Once on the course, it's time to trust that your actual stroke will work for you.

The more time you spend working on analyzing a putt, the greater the chance of getting tense and making a bad stroke.  Commit to the initial line that you think will work, take a couple practice strokes for feel, and roll the ball.

Since I've gotten over the thought that I HAVE to make every putt -- and that all I can do is give the ball my best effort to get the ball into the hole -- I've holed more putts.

  10. As for keeping you head down "till you hear the ball fall, When you hear you playing buddies get in their carts to leave, it may be time to take a peek!!!
