  1. Some good answers so far.!

    It is extremley addictive habit.

I stooped a couple of times for 6 weeks then as soon as had a drink the urges came along and gave in.

Trying again now to stop but have a paul mckeena book and c,d thing which is quite entertaining.

But I know what you mean as soon as the alcohol touches the lips then its time to smoke.

    Good luck buddy!

  2. Just stop

  3. I quit 3 years ago using the patch, no I did not read the book. You have to really want to quit for it to work  regardless of the method. Set a date, tell yourself this is the best thing I can do for my health, realize how bad it is for you (and others around you) .  I feel so much better and you will too. I can take walks without getting out of breath. It was the best thing I have done for myself. I have no cravings whatsoever. Hey, I wish you luck I know its not easy, but you can do it!!!

  4. just pray and fast in the power of Jesus Christ. I am successful by doing that way. I was a heavy smoker. But now, I am free.

  5. counselling

  6. I quit many years ago and have never looked back. The thing that I find is that when you quit one thing, you can't quit and then do the same things that you normally do. Right now you associate a lot of those activities with smoking, for example. If you're trying to give up something, you have to replace it with something else. If you find that smoking gives you something to do with your hands, then try and pick up a hobby - something that involves your hands - i.e. woodworking, etc. anything like that. If you need something to do with your mouth, try chewing gum. A lot of people gain a lot of weight when they quit because it's an oral fixation for them and so they tend to go for more food.

Also, you will probably have a lot of nervous energy at first so it might be good to incorporate some kind of higher energy activity to burn off some of that tension - to get on an exercise bike, take the dog for a walk, go for a run etc. I agree with the person who said that you'll probably have to give up the drinking too because drinking is pretty much a couch potato activity and if you associate it with having  a beer and a smoke, for instance, every time you sit down to have a beer, it's going to trigger an uncontrollable urge to have a smoke too. When I quit smoking, I couldn't even sit and talk on the phone because it was an activity that I normally had a cigarrette.

So you might have to avoid those type of activities - whatever you associate with smoking a cigarrette, just until you lose the cravings.

Personally, I don't believe it's possible to give up a habit unless you replace it with something else. And if you don't choose something constructive, you might just develop another habit that will also cause you problems down the road - like overeating etc.

One thing that I did that maybe other people would find strange is I carried an un-opened package of cigarrettes with me for the 1st year. It was sort of a security blanket for me. I always found that if I was out of smokes, the cravings would be wild and when I tried to quit, it actually stepped up my anxiety thinking that I didn't have any on me. If I had an un-opened pack, I could say to myself: "I could have one if I choose to but I choose not to".

I'm not sure that this would work for everyone but it worked for me. If you do try this though, watch for people asking you for a cigarette. As soon as you take the cellophane off of the pkg., it's game over and I guarantee you'll be into them again. I had a couple of trial runs like that. So after a while, I just kept the pack un-opened and would not open them for anyone. And it did work.

The first year is the hardest but it's worth it - Good luck!

  7. you are gonna hafta quit drinking as much if you wanna quit smoking as much.,..chew gum....buy little sweet treats....how bow black and milds?  those help....buy some of those when you drink.

  8. when you fine a cure let me know.i can't stop myself.

  9. Im trying to quit smoking too. Ive cut down so far from 30 to about 10 a day so far. I drink everyday too and always wanna smoke more when i drink!

Im cutting down slowly at the moment. I cut down on number of f**s i smoke each week and stick to it. I started 30 one week, then 25, then 20 etc. Im on 5 next week then hopefully nothing!

Good luck. I know what your going through!

  10. Well I don't know much, but my mom was in the health researching

buisiness and she said she would tell her patients to suck on lollipops

every time they felt and addiction. I guess it doesn't have to be

lollipops. Maybe just any little thing you like. Maybe gum?
