Maybe Im just lazy and dont want to search all 100+ tuners that are coupon eligible. Im looking for an HDTV tuner that also receives the DTV (in Feb 2009) but thats coupon eligible. Anyone know? Thanks!

  1. An HDTV tuner (e.g., the Samsung one for $180) is, by nature, a digital tuner. And while digital tuners can receive all signals, including 1080i formatted HD, they don't necessarily output signals to be displayed as such.

Because the point of the coupon program is to get basic digital tuners to those who'd otherwise not be able to afford them and would lose out in the analog shutoff deadline in Feb 2009, the coupon eligible boxes are pretty basic in functions and features.

One thing the coupon eligible boxes have in common: they won't generate signaling to display a true HD image. So far the boxes out there output in RF or composite. No component, no HDMI, no DVI. Forget it.

So what you're looking for you won't find. Sorry.
