  1. when your on the ice look at what other skaters are doing that's how i learnt stuff n u tube r u on skate UK levels?

  2. balance

  3. Make sure you stretch before skating. Exercise helps as well to help tone the muscles you need for the sport. If you are in group lessons now, maybe try private lessons if you want to advance. When I started taking private lessons, I felt as if my needs were met more and that I advanced quicker. Have fun with the two foot spins. The scratch spins are even more fun!

I'm a fellow figure skater, and I've been skating for over ten years, so. Ask me whatever you need to. I can try to help. Good luck!

  4. for every thing in skating, u need to BEND UR KNEES.

  5. Spins can be very tricky, personally I know they are my weak point. Depending on how much you have taught yourself depends on how relevant this is.

For all spins in general your upper body can make or break your spin

    - make sure your head is completely straight when i was first learning to do a scratch spin this was a problem because my head would be crooked and affect my center of balance

    - make sure that you dont bend at the waist and keep a straight back

    -dont hunch your shoulders

-arms, arms, arms. When you bring your arms in make sure that you don't being them up too high or too low, you want to keep them at about bust level. I know different coaches tell you different things but genereally avoid bringing them in cross your chest in an "x" it is easier to pull yourself to one direction or another that way. When I do upright spins I start with my arms out then ull them both in to the center and lock thumbs, that way I know that its centered  and then of course from there you can lower your arms down

If you're doing/ starting a sit spin the major thing is to have a deep lunge when you go into it also make sure that every spin starts with a 3-turn, thats the MOST important.

    - make sure that you make your swingin foot parallel to the ice and try to keep the center of balance

I dont exactly know what jumps you're doing but for most single revolution jumps that start from a 3-turn makes sure that you have a good check after the three to avoid cheating. When you pick on toe pick jumps (toe loop, lutz, flip) make sure to reach back with a semi-straight leg and use that ick to transfer your weight and lift yourself into the air.

For edge jumps (waltz, loop, salchow) make sure to bend your knees,

the last thing that should leave the ice in all jumps is the toepick and the FIRST thing that should hit the ice when you land is your toepick

As always in skating, just keep your head up, look graceful, and have confidence :)

  6. Congrats to getting to Level 3!  That's great you're taking lessons with your BFF . . . it's awesome when your friends can share and understand your excitement about ice skating!

Have an instructor/coach take a quick look at the things you teach yourself - you need to make sure you do are doing these moves correctly.  It's so much harder to "fix" things once you create a habit of doing them incorrectly.

Practice, practice, and practice some more (did I mention practice?).  But do give your muscles (and mind) to relax.

Here is a link to stretching exercises specifically for skating.

Get in the habit of warming up well - not just for flexibility, but to help prevent injuries.

Stretching helps with flexibility, but remember it goes hand in hand with strengthening.  You need both for better skating.

Work on artistry.  Skating is one thing, but it's another to make it look "good" - wink!  Use of body language (lots of arms) and facial gestures . . . learn to interpret music really well to make your skating stand out!

Build up competition experience as early as possible.

In general, keep a good posture: chin up (no looking down at the ice) and shoulders down.  Bend your knees, but don't stick out your rear or lean forward.  Stay positive.  Most of all - have FUN!

And that's just a tid bit!!!  Hope that helps!!

  7. you need to make sure you have good knee bends soft knee help a lot also having strong ankles, if you skate straight legged you will skate on top of the ice when you bend the knees you will skate through the ice. lots of exercises and stretches to strengthen you up. i would invest in private lessons they will help you progress on further but not that they will help you perform the elements correctly.

  8. Keep your knees bent; and focus on your progress.

  9. Don't go really fast and then fall down---- It hurts real bad
