Anyone a hydrogeologist? If you are could you tell me a bit about your day-to-day job, your salary and anything else you think is pertinent about the job. I ask because I am thinking of doing an Msc in Environmental Hydrogeology and would like to some feedback from the horses mouth (so to speak lol)

Thank you!

  1. day-to-day:

    source water/wellhead protection plans

fate and transport of contaminants along the pathway element of the source-pathway-receptor paradigm of environmental risk.

aquifer drawdown tests to determine aquifer characteristics

models of contaminant plumes based on the hydrogeological characteristics of an aquifer.

salary: I really don't know for someone fresh out of school, but I'd suspect in the US$40+K range or better with a MS.

Other: Contaminated waste sites should continue to decline over time with better engineering controls implemented at the source, so pathway analysis will not be required as often.  I suspect many will start to broaden experience to assessing things like environmental liability of property transfers or the like.
