I'm 25 and just got into ice skating. I'm having lessons at the moment and getting on really well and enjoying it loads. Obviously I know I'm never going to make it big ice skating but do they do competitions for beginners and people of my age or am I a bit too old? I would really like to take part in either a competition or some type of exam as it will give me something to work towards.

  1. hey no way r u too old follow your heart!!

  2. No one is never to old to ice skate or even try something new! Go for it. Skating competitions offer many categories.  If you look up this same question, there is the same answer.

  3. No way!!  Good for you for starting!!  :)  The area of adult skating is growing in popularity.  Adults are finding that skating, even if they did not skate growing up, is fun, is a great workout and is.....addicting!!!  Not a bad addition to have!  I have a lot of friends who started skating as adults and they're loving it too.  Adults now have their own testing track, competitions, special events and even nationals (which I have heard is a blast).  Depending on where you live, check with your governing body of skating.  For example, if you're in the US, check out usfsa.org for info on adult programs in your area.  In skating, there are levels you can test and each level is divided into 2 sections.....moves in the field and freestyle.  The levels give you goals to work towards, a sense of accomplishment and allow you to compete at higher levels.  There are adult-only competitions and many other competitions add adult events to their overall competition.  While the Olympics may not be in your future -- but anything's possible -- there are still many shows, competitions, tests and other fun events that you can be a part of as an adult skater.

I skated when I was younger, but came back as an adult -- and I'm loving it!  I'm trying to test both USFSA standard and adult tracks, doing a few competitions for fun and also teaching with the Learn To Skate program.  There is a lot adult skaters can do in skating, just like the kids, but as an adult, you can also be a great asset to your club by serving on their boards or volunteering.  It's a fun sport to be involved in and the sport needs to get the word out for more adults to get into it!  :)

Good luck, welcome and happy skating!!!

  4. ur pretty young for figure skating i mean there are the people who get into figure skating at three of four and there are the people who start at maybe 10 skate for a couple of years stop and by the time they have gotten married had kids and are 42 they start skating again so you are definitely not to old

good luck with your skating!!!: )

  5. Heya!  I started skating in my mid 20's as well . . . I made it to Adult Gold level!  We can't make it to the Olympics, but did you know we have our own Adult Nationals and now International competitions? You have a chance to do very well in the adult skating world!!!  I learned to jump and spin (to doubles), test and compete/perform . . . oh the opportunity is out there for folks your age (and 30's, 40's . . . even 70-80's!!).

  6. you are never too old for anything :)

  7. You are not too old at all.  As long as you enjoy doing it, that's all that really matters.  They do have both ISI and USFSA adult competitions.  You should probably ask your coach or another adult skater at your rink about these for more information.  Adults can also take USFSA tests which are something you could work towards.

  8. No one is too old!

Im mean, no, your not going to get to the olympics, but it's still really fun and it feels great to archieve things for the first time, especially because this dosen't happen much to adults (learnign new things)!

Go 4 it and happy skating!
