I can not find what kind of tree this is! I have searched and searched. It is a flowering tree (HUGE orange and yellow flowers)that produced no fruit, and has a 4 pointed leaf. Very Strange. I have even asked some of the local lumberjacks, and they have never seen anything like it. It must not be native to Missouri. Maybe it is some freaky Hybrid? It is not a tulip tree...that was my first thought. Any help would be great!

  1. Both the flower and the leaf look to be typical of the Liriodendron tulipifera or tulip tree. The Lioriodendron chinensis flowers do not have the orange coloration. However they do hybridize (L. chinense × L. tulipifera) so you may be looking at an intermediate type. There are several named cultivars of the hybrid like 'Chapel Hill'

Named cultivars of L. tulipifera are also bred for selected characteristics including leaf variegation or golden foliage, as well as columnar growth for a tall, slender profile.

  2. This is definitely the tulip poplar.  The broad notch and the flowers are unique.  See this site for more pictures:
