Any Ideas? How to ask my dad for permission to get Married?

My boyfriend for about a year and a half now is going to ask my dad if he can marry me... my boyfriend is really nervous and is confused on what to say.. Any ideas?

Hopefully they get along.  He should respectfully ask...  "I've been thinking about this for a while now.  Your daughter and I are very happy, and I would like to ask your permission to ask her to marry me." Then to keep the short conversation rolling, he can talk about what kind of rings he has been looking for and what he plans to do. He can say that he's talked about it with you.

WAIT - after reading your edit - that is the WRONG reason to get engaged.   There should be no incentive other than just being together.  18 is too young!!  You should definitely wait.  I hope it works out but what's the rush?  You may regret this later...

Bless him, I think this is a wonderful idea - my fiance did it and I love him even more for it!! Shows that he respects my father as well as me.

I would get him to have a conversation just him and your dad. Bring the conversation round to how happy you are together, how he wants to spend his life with you and that he is thinking of asking you to marry him, but he wants your dads permission first!

You sound way to young to be getting married as most adults will tell there parents not ask. You understand this will be the person you will be with all your life? What is the rush? It really sounds like you're going to end up missing out of your 20's Few of my freinds did this only 1 is still married.

im 18 my fiance is 19....

my fiance asked my daddy a month after i turned 17...this is wat he told me was said

"sam ( my dads name) i love dana,  and i would do anything for her and i want to marry her, and i want your blessing"

my dad replied

" well,  first off. i like you and i want you to finish college, that way you can prove for her, and im telling you right now.. there is no way in h3ll im signin for her to get married, i want this to be her choice. good luck"

we are gettin married in 4 months... and my dad is thrilled.
