  1. People are alot more friendly then they would be in the US or canda. When traveling in Ireland always bring rain gear and wear warm clothes even in summer. New Zealands are a friendly bunch as well. Both are beautiful countrys

  3. Most of Europe in general is really great to visit, speaking as an Irish person. Many Europeans seem to like Ireland too, both visitors and residents.

If you do travel to Ireland, would please please please give the 'my grandmother was from Ireland' thing a rest! Sorry for the jaded cynicism, but we get that from Americans a LOT and quite frankly it's gotten VERY OLD .... just find out her name, when she was born and where she came from and go there and look up the partish register. To be brutally honest about it, we Irish don't care in the slightest where your family originally come from. Most of us are not interested in a person's pedigree, we're interested in the person. You don't have to emphasise a link with us, it really isn't necessary!

  4. im 3/4 irish, but liv in the uk

yeahh, its a very friendly place..

obviously depending on who u meet, theres idiots all over the world!!

  5. Hello! =)

Im Irish and I believe that statement to be true. Its the best place in the world to visit. New Zealand and Canada are amazing but not half as amazing as Ireland. I would agree that like anywhere in the world if you walk around a rough area in a big city in Ireland you might not meet any friendly people but in general if you come over I would hope that we would look after you really well and help you find out and see more of your grandmothers heritage.

If you decide to come over then Im looking forward to having you and Im sure you will be made feel very welcome.

If I see you ill buy you a pint and tell you some awesome stories!

Im so drunk right now....      only joking! =)

  6. I am from Ireland, I live in New York now (husband is New Yorker) and I can't wait to get back.  I think American's are just as friendly as the Irish, although I never really encountered the automatic attack personality some New Yorkers have, especially in the Bronx, but even those are few and far between.  Ireland is great to live in, the heritage the opportunities.  We don't have your social security number situation where you can barely buy a stick of gum without ID and although it is expensive to live in, most people including myself get along fine, owning homes instead of renting.  I think salaries are much higher.  Ireland is not the same as it was say 15 years ago.  the open European borders led to many Eastern European immigrants.  However, it is very safe and the Irish will look after you, no doubt.  Infact we love tourists in general.  It's not a great time to go now though, wait if you can until the dollar is more stable.  At the moment it is pretty worthless against the British pound (North) and the Euro (south).  You won't get much for your money.  Living in the USA you have so many beautiful places to see, I think you could wait a while though.  If and when you do go, enjoy yourself and don't be afraid to go into the small Irish bars, you'll receive a warm welcome and try to stay at a small bed and breakfast/bar as you'll meet more people that way than one of the larger international hotels.

  7. Yes, I'm Irish and in my opinion I'm a very friendly person.

  8. People say Ireland has the friendliest people but everywhere I've been there have been people just as friendly. It just depends on the people you meet. Be prepared for a lot of rain. I love Ireland because I from here and it's home for me but I don't really know what others see in it.

  9. Im Irish and i live in Dublin, Ireland. Personally i'd say go to New Zealand!!

Yes, Irish people are known to be friendly, and you'll have a great time visiting Ireland. But don't assume that every person you meet is friendly and trustworthy, like every other country there are a******s here too who are waiting to take advantage of a naive tourist! (for example check the meter is on when u get in a taxi, and keep an eye on your wallet or handbag in crowded places.) I'd use the same judgement as you would when you approach a stranger in the USA, and don't get a false sense of security just because you're on a holiday abroad.

I don't want to turn you off the idea of visiting Ireland though, its just that many people have an idealistic image of Ireland in their minds before they come here! And the people here really aren't all that different to the people that you'd meet in most U.S cities!

Generally though, if you go to a pub or a bar, you'll find easy going people to chat to, and if you stop someone in the street they'll be happy to give you directions!

  10. I think its true to say that all Irish People are from Ireland.  There may be some of us (several million) living elsewhere but If your Irish .. well thats it, you have to come at least once to see for yourself

Have a holiday and experience it for yourself...

  11. Ireland is truly a very friendly place to visit. North and south in fact. You'll enjoy yourself.
