Question:

Any Kiwis here living in NZ since 1971? Have there been many pleasant or exciting changes since then???

Any new attractions since then, other than Waitomo Caves, Rotorua mud pools, Queenstown? People still friendly even to hitch-hikers?

Are there many good campsites? Would like to revisit but don't really know when and where is best?

Thanks for your time and kindness, and best wishes from a South-East Asian!

  1. You can still hitch around but I would not recommend to do it on your own.  I hitched around in the 70's with a friend and felt quite safe but would not consider it now.

I have also found that even the drivers have second thoughts about picking up hitchhikers as they can also turn on the driver of the vehicle!!

But in saying all of the above, it is still one of the safest and prettiest unspoiled places in the world.

  2. Hitchhiking is definitely more dangerous than it was.

  3. This is coming from my mum! New zealand has changed alot since those days as they have made the country a place were tourists can now have a truely good time!  Yes we are still very friendly to hitch-hikers! :)

If your looking for scenery, The west coast has got the best scenery in NZ, especially the glaciers!

Auckland or Wellington is the place to be if you want shopping!

    Good luck! :)
