Question:

Any LCD / Plasma TV recommendations?

What is the difference between LCD and Plasma TVs? Which is better? I am looking for possibly two TVs between approx. 32-inches to 42-inches in size. I have no clue about which brands are better for what...

I currently have two old TVs which I am thinking of replacing. One is linked to an XBOX 360 so a HD replacement would be nice for graphics etc. The other old TV is connected to a Freeview box and cheap DVD player from ASDA. Is there any need for a HD TV for normal TV and DVD viewing?

If you know of any good, cheap websites please feel free to post the links!

Any help/suggestions are much appreciated.

  1. I was about to post the same type question...the only thing I have heard about the two is the LCD last longer than the plasma. I heard plasmas' are only good for like 6 years, I could be wrong....I do know Walmart sells the same type of TV's that Best Buy and Circuit City sell but at a much cheaper price, same brand and everything....so I would start there.....I hope this helps a little.....

  2. Workmate of mine just bought a 40" Panasonic LCD and he's very happy with it - if that helps

  3. if you're on a budget, currys do a really good 32 inch Orion model with built in freeview for around £420. I was wary about buying cheaper models but the picture looks really great when a 360 is played through it

  4. Check out this link

"about.com" has the answer to almost any kind of question.  This is where I went for my answers to the lcd tv question!

  5. Definatly LCD, you will get a far better picture exspeically if you get a 1080p hd ready one. Plasma is good but not as good and there is a lot of problems with faulty plasma tvs, they can leek and also plasma tvs are prome to dead pixels plus there more exspensive.

so LCD is the way to go!

  6. Hi there.

There is often a lot of confusion about the difference between LCD and Plasma televisions.  So I hope that we can shed some light on the differences for you.

Liquid crystal display (LCD) screens come to life when light from behind the screen is shone through the screen's matrix of tiny coloured liquid crystal cells. Signals control each cell, letting varying amounts of colour through, and a picture is built up.

A plasma TV display is an array of tiny gas cells sandwiched between two sheets of glass. Each cell acts like a mini fluorescent tube, emitting ultraviolet light which then strikes red, green and blue spots on the screen. These spots glow to build a picture.

Collectively the two technologies are often called flat-panel TVs.

For a 32" TV you I would recommend an LCD TV, as Plasma TVs are only made for the larger screen sizes. Dixons stock a great range of 32" and 37" LCD TVs. If you are using it for gaming you should make sure you have an HDMI connection for optimum picture quality and if your TV is HD 1080p this will enable you to play games in High Definition picture and sound. The new range of Samsung 1080p TVs (5 series and 6 series) are great for gaming and great value for money!

At 42" you can decide between Plasma and LCD TV's. It is really hard to say which is better as the pictures they produce are very similar, it all depends really on how much you want to spend and what design you want. Panasonic have a great range of 42" Plasma TV's to suit most budgets.

Nearly all new TV's have a digital Tuner built-in now so you will not need a separate Freeview box. Large Screen TVs with DVD players built-in have never really taken off and are not widely available. If you wanted the complete viewing solution there are many TV and Home Cinema System bundles so you can watch movies or play games with complete surround sound.

  7. plasma burns out and have a life time of about 10,000 hours

lcd last until someone or something breaks it

visio is the best to get...

not the top of the line but its half as much as others and just as good
