Question:

Any Mechanics out there????

I drive a Nissan Pulsar Vz-R, and when the car is cold and you change down in gears there is a humming noise coming out of the gear box.. any ideas what this is? also there is a noise like a banging a tin can that seems to be coming from the front passenger side wheel??

any help greatly appreciated!

  1. In regards to your front wheel, it could ether be a wheel baring or warped disk's.

    and your gear box you might need transmission fluid. but i suggest you go to your local shop.


  2. Depends if it is an automatic or manual. If the car is a manual try pushing the clutch in, if the noise in the gearbox reduces substantially or disappears then it is probably a thrust bearing in the box. If an automatic then it could be a faulty band or bearings. In both cases the box has to come out for inspection and repair. Two things that could be wrong in the front end, a constant velocity joint (CVR) or the bearing is buggered, if it is the bearing be sure to replace the bearings on both sides of the vehicle.
