I am just 60 years old, recently diagnosed with under active thyroid problem (just under borderline) am on smallest dose of Thyroxine started 4 weeks ago.

Have high blood pressure-take 100mg Antenolol, 30mg Adalat, 20mg enalapril, 75mg Asprin.

I am chronically tired, sometimes feel dizzy and disorientated,

I have just tried to do some housework for about one and a half hours-felt sick, then was sick-will have to sit down and relax now for about 2-3hrs. I know this because it has happened before.

If I go to get food shopping that is all I can do all day!

What is wrong with me?

Could this be Chronic Fatiue Syndrome or ME as I think it may be called?

How can I find out?

Sorry, nearly forgot, have long term depression which seems not too bad at the moment, take 60mg of Duloxetine.

Thank you so much.

  1. Do you check your blood pressure at home?  You are on a lot of medicine for your BP, and I am wondering if you are dropping a little too much at times.  Some people have white coat syndrome, and their pressure goes way up at the Dr office, and then drops too much from the meds.  Have you had your carotids checked?  The dizziness and disorientation need to be evaluated, and I think a full physical is in order. How is your hemoglobin?  Have you ever been told you are anemic (another cause of fatigue).  People who are chronically depressed do tend to have lower energy, as do those with thyroid issues, so make sure your levels are rechecked.  Do not change your medications yourself, but since this is your health we are talking about, leave no stone unturned.  Do you take a good multivitamin - that may be of help to you also.

  2. as some form of medical background all i can say is that if you have an under active thyroid and depression these two factors will make you tired, i would say go back to your G.P OR  MEDICAL ADVISOR and have your health re-assessed.

  3. Well I'm 14 and a year ago I was diagnosed with a slightly underactive thyroid and I had similar symptoms but you are SIXTY. And if you have depression etc I'm not suprised your tired. See your doctor and he or she will probably tell you to slow down, that or examine you to see what the problem is.
