Any REAL Irish annoyed with?

All the people answering every question in the Ireland section with stupid answers all going back to us Irish being drunk and drinking or something along those lines... you dont have a clue! So just stop! its very insulting, you dont have a clue

also the people who claim they are Irish because there fathers brothers, sisters, friends aunt is Irish - just sad like

statistically ireland has the highest alcohol consumption of any country in the world, but we're not all alcoholics! i saw something very annoying a while a go.there was a question that said "what's the appropriate response to top of the morning in ireland?".get f;;ucki;;;ng real mate.people can claim they're irish all they want, i dont really care that much.oh and by the way, i am actually irish

I was speaking with an American fella whos name was FitzGerald. He was Irish this and Irish that. In one way it is flatterying to us that so many want to be Irish. On the other hand I don't get the mindset.

Anyway i told him FitzGerald, although has firm roots in Limerick, is in fact a Norman name (or at least derived from) so he may as well claim he is French too.

His face was a picture!!

I find it very frustrating also that we get lots of answers from people who claim to be Irish.  When I visited both USA and Canada I met lots of people who said 'I am Irish' but they meant of Irish descent and seriously far back! that doesn't make them Irish.  

I think we just have to let all the "Southern" Ireland and "drunken" Ireland things roll off us.  There are a lot of ignorant people out there and Yahoo answers is not going to change them because anyone can write what they like about anything.

There was an eejit on here recently who asked about a citizenship.  When I answered the question seriously he used bad language and told me his mother was Irish so that made him Irish.!! As if!!

I am Irish and have lived here all my life but have travelled extensively and I never fail to be amazed at the ignorance about Ireland when I travel.  I know we are only a little island but we have exported a lot of people!

Have just read the answers to another question on the flag.  Some guy is claiming we are still under British occupation.  Unbelievable.

I'm annoyed bout alot of things people think only think Irish people do is drink.anyway  they are hardly any Irish people in ireland anymore :(Americans say they are Irish cause great great great grandad born here they are not Irish wish someone one would tell them

Yeh Im Irish, as in my parents are Irish, I live in Ireland and grew up here, not my brothers sisters mothers friends dog walker once saw an Irish persons shadow so Im Irish. I do find it annoying when ppl are like 'drunky drunkerson' all the time, they'd find it just as insulting if I used some other stereotype like all Americans are fat.

There will always be stereotypes, my dear.  Just remember that people who make generalizations about any group of people are ignorant.  As difficult as it may be, try to let it roll off your back.

As for people claiming they are Irish, I assume they mean they are of descent.  In places such as America, where virtually everyone has roots somewhere else, identifying oneself based on their ancestors' heritage is quite common.  Again, just smile and dismiss it.
