Question:

Any Tips On Pressing Flowers?

I'm doing an art project. It's mixed media and I'm going to press a few flowers. I've never done this before and am really looking forward to it! I've found a few resources online that seem like they'll help - but does anyone else have any tips for me? And how long will it take to dry the flowers out? They're small - only about an inch radius. Any tips would be great! Thanks!

  1. Usually i put them into the pages of a heavy book for about a day or underneath a piece of slightly heavy sheet of glass. Remember that you don't want to crush the flower, you just want it to dry out and become pressed.

  2. use newspaper and two pieces cardboard and a rubberband put the flowers between the cardboard and newspaper. After a few days take the flowers out of the press and they should be done.

  3. You can also do them quickly in a microwave with some paper towels and a couple of plates.

There are instructions for doing them that way on this page:

(...click on the category called *Dried Nature* then scroll down a few screenfuls to the sub-category "Quick Drying")
