Should a level 3 Teachin assistant in a primary school really be teaching ICT - a core subject? Since these new TA levels have been brought in, it seems TA's levels 3-4 have ended up teaching more lessons rather than the school recruiting supply teachers when needed. I have ended up for the past 3 years teaching the ICT to the year 1&2 classes - i'm not qualified nor paid to do this! I have gone to my line manager to ask for a change/move (i put this in writing) and it seems my views have been ignored & i'm doing the same when we return in september can any1 advise me what to do next?

  1. Is there a job description that you can refer to? Only HLTAs in my school are allowed to teach lessons. If you made your views clear and dug your heels in, I'm sure they wouldn't force you to teach these lessons.

  2. Contact your local UNISON rep. Ask to be puy in touch with regional rep.

  3. Phone your area office, and speak to your full time officer, ASAP! You are not alone, many schools are 'trying their luck'

You can find the number in the local phone book, or on the Unison web site
