Question:

Any Ways To Relieve Pain?

I was told I have an impacted wisdom tooth, and I think that's the source of my pain. It shoots up near my eye, and I can feel it in my gums and the top row of teeth on my left side. My wisdom teeth are trying to push through on the bottom, too, and so it hurts to really even open my mouth to talk, and eating is pretty hard, especially if I accidentally chew on my left side.

I've been taking ibuprofen and the likes, but nothing really seems to help. The most it does is dull it to a throb, where it makes my face feel almost weird and heavy.

I have to go to a doctor soon, I'm going to try to get in tomorrow morning. I know I need to go to a dentist, but I can't get in yet.

Is there anything you suggest to help ease the pain?

  1. Sorry to hear you are going through so much tooth pain. See the  article below by Dr Benjamin Kim about relieving tooth pain until you can see the Dentist.

Then get in ASAP to be seen at the  Dentist. If dental costs and lack of insurance is an issue see trinitymedcare.com below.

  2. If the Advil or Motrin isn't helping, you need to be seen immediately.  The doctor won't be able to help you and he will refer you to your dentist.  It's just better to start where you will actually get the help that is needed.  So with that said, call your dental office and let them know how serious the pain is along with the difficulty eating and with speaking.  They may work you in tomorrow, which will at least get you on some med's that will work better until you can have the oral surgery preformed.  Sorry but oral surgery is the only way to alleviate the pain you are having.  In the mean time, keep taking the Ibuprofen at a 600mg dose every six hours.  If any of the teeth have broken through the gums you can rinse with warm salt water several times a day.  You can also try either ice or hot compresses, which ever works for you.  Some patients swear ice helps while others use a heating pad.  Usually with throbbing the ice is the better choice though.  Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.
