Ok i am a senior in high school and i am going off to college next fall. I have found the perfect school (University of Houston in houston TX) and i want to go there more then anything but my parents don't want me to go to that school. Once I am 18 (in March) I don't think they can stop me but they can choose not to pay for my education. Part of the reason they don't want me to go to school in TX is because i live in CT. And traveling back and forth would be expensive so they wouldnt get to see me much. But is that really a good reason to keep a child from a great college education?? Is there anyway i can convince them? or should i give up and go to a school that i don't really want to go to but my parents want me to go to??

  1. Go to the state school (CT).  Wait to go out of state for a master's program.  You will probably be financing that yourself.  Almost all undergraduate programs are the same.  Save the travelling expenses, you will like the other school I am sure.

  2. id go to the tx school but you better get to saving money and get financial aid and grants, explain to your parents why you want to go to that school rather then the other ones

  3. go go go you hear me

this is your future your talken bout and they should really support you

do any thing to convince them tell them that you'll call everyday and e-mail them  and visit them in holidays and vacation

    best of luck

  4. Tell them you will get a part time job down there and that you will pay for the plane tickets.

  5. Texas is a terrible place to go. There is a real cultural difference. Your education will be better in the NE. If you get a southern education it will be a lot harder to get a job in the NE. I would suggest going to a college for 2 years in the NE. Then after the 2 years go to Texas if you still want to do that.

I understand that you may feel like you want to get away from your parents and move on with your life. But you really need to think about what is in your best interest for school. The NE has some wonderful colleges to attend. The South is very very different. Believe me. Nothing here is like the NE including people.

I would find a school in the NE that you would like. I would reconsider the idea of staying in the NE. You don't have to go to the school that your parents want maybe choose a different one. But stay in the NE! Don't come down here. Nothing but trouble!

  6. Are you working? Get a job and show them you can help pay for travel/education as much as you can. Be patient with them, don't fight, show your maturity so they can trust you so far away. Sit down and talk with them. COMPROMISE is the key word here. Ask them if their are ANY circumstances they would let you go to TX on.

  7. You can go to a school your parents don't want to go to, but then you better be prepared financially to pay for it. If you are serious, start applying for financial aid to cover the costs of the school. Also, keep in mind that when going to school out of state, the costs are usually twice as much as what it costs for in-state students. As long as you have a plan worked out for the financing, go for it! You parents will come around eventually and may be so impressed with you handling everything on your own like an adult, they may start chipping in with school down the road.

  8. Idk why your parents wont let you go. That should be your choice not theirs. I think you need to convinve them on what good the school is. Tell them it matches your needs better than any other college. I think its really harsh to jeapordize you education because they will see you less. You education should be a high priority with them and i think you should tell them that too. Good luck and email me with any questions.

PS. The University of Houston is a great University
