Question:

Any advice for a college freshman?

I'm a college freshman - just started two days ago, actually. And due to misreading the schedule I've already missed two of my classes... (is that terribly uncommon? please let me know!)

Anyway, I can see already from my syllabi that I could v. easily be swamped w. homework. I'm taking 16 credit hours: Algebra, Geology, and American lit. (all of which I need), and then journalism and psych. (twice a week). I think I should drop something - before the drop period ends - but I'm not sure what. Journalism or psych? I want to be an English teacher.

A friend suggested that I throw in a music or gym class where I have an opening - no homework and stress-relieving. Do you agree?

I didn't expect this to be so hard right away! Any answers or tips for college freshman you have would be greatly appreciated.

ps - I do live at home, so I either walk (20min) or take a city bus to school.

  1. You have some good advice from your friend, but be sure to stay above the minimum needed to be a full time student (usually 12 credits.

Meet with your advisor, or a counselor in your advising center...and use other campus resources!   Such as the career center or tutoring center.

Be aware of the drop add schedule and when you can still get a refund if that enters into things.

One way to decide...which two classes did you miss?  Maybe one of them would be the drop...since you are already behind.

And, yes, that does happen when people misread schedules - happens to seniors as well!  I doubt you will let it happen again, so learn from it.

    Good luck!
