I play libero and I got the Defensive Award, but I want to get better. I would like to make varsity as a sophmore. Any training advice or ways to improve my game would be awesome!

  1. ~ well first of all...get used to falling! lol

Um, i would practice ur reflexes, and dives, and all around accurate passing.

  2. You can practice by having someone spike the ball at you over and over, practice accuracy and passing.

  3. Wow, this sounds like total deja vue for me. I'm just going into my junior year, so I was a sophomore this year. I've played libero ever since I was in 7th grade and this year (as a sophomore) I was the starting libero on a state bound high school team.

What you want to do is learn how to read shoulders! You should be able to anticipate where the ball is going before the hitter hits it. Typically if the hitters shoulders are square to the net, it's going down line.... I trust you can find out the rest. I always found it's easier to play deep and run foreward into anything. That brings me on to my other tip, learn how to do run throughs. Though you may be expected to hit the floor a lot, try to stay on your feet as often as possible because then you're ready for anything unexpected. One of the best things that you can learn is what I was taugh called a "J-stroke" I don't know if thats the technical name or not, but chances are you should be able to find out what I mean. Also, I'm 10 times more comfortable bump passing then set passing, but I've found that I really am a lot more accurate with the set passes I make. So, never be afraid to use your hands. Gain a good relationship with your front line because you need them to be able to tell you what they need from you, they also need to be able to trust you and expect that you'll get the ball when they can't. Finally, this tip goes without much saying, go after everything! Never let anything hit the floor and make all the hitters on the other team watch out for you. Agility drills and any way to build speed are a must over the summer time. Also, a good verticle never hurts.

I hope this helps, if you need anything else just ask!

  4. I have been a High School Girls Volleyball coach for 8 years now and as far as I am concerned effort is the best way to impress a coach.  I have coached many quality athletes and I have found that the harder you push yourself for yourself the more you improve. Don't do it for the coach or the team do it for you!! As a libero your speed is an asset. Try to improve your speed and agility. A two footed jump up a set of stairs, individual stairs, then skip one then skip two, no hands. Wall sits can also increase the strength in your legs by sitting with your back up against the wall and your legs at a 90 degree angle for a long as you can. If you go for every ball no matter what the cost to your body all the time there is no doubt you will impress any coach!! Try some beach Volleyball this summer you will be amazed at how much you will increase your skill level.

  5. Pass, Pass, Pass, Pass, Pass, and Pass some more. Work on speed, agility, and eye training. Try to get someone o hit at you and try to read the hits. Reading the hit will put you that much more ahead.

  6. Try not to swing your arms. Also make sure you have a wide base and are very low to the ground when you pass... being low to the ground will also help with diving for balls because you don't have to go down as much. I hope that this helps you!

  7. Play soccer goalkeeper.

  8. if you played libero...i'd hope you'd get the defensive award...or else you're no libero

  9. Keep working on your agility.  Keep playing this summer as much as you can.  Great Libero players read the ball and are moving before the ball does.  And then move there quickly.  Pass the ball this summer.  Several hundred a day.  Not just the easy ones.  Have your practice partner make you move around for you to practice all kinds of passes.  Practice moving to the ball and then stopping moving so that you can pass the ball while as stationary as possible.
