I'm trying to drop about 5 pounds for my first fight. I'm 5'4" and about 139 pounds. I really have very little fat, mostly muscle. I run 5 times week and do not weight train. I'm a little nervous about fighting an opponent who's my same weight or more. I do NOT look my weight. How can I lose the weight or at least be okay fighting someone my same weight?

  1. wear heavy clothing when you run. heat helps the body burn calories faster. drink lots of water its important to stay hydrated. eat lots of vegetables and lettuce (lettuce has no nutritional value but it does help with digestion) also hot peppers and spicy foods help metabolism. However I would also say you should ask yourself how important is it to lose this weight unless you need to in order to get to a certain weight class. it may be in fact better to stay at 139. I would advise talking with a doctor on the issue of weight loss. it is in fact possible to lose to much weight which takes away from your power and longevity in the ring.

  2. figure out your strengths and use them.  also, work on counter punching and moving your head, learn to bob.  if you're fighting women bigger than you, use that.  if they come in for a jab, move under and work your way in.  singe you're shorter, work the body, dont let a bigger girl breathe.

watch some good, undersized fighters and take notes.  tyson in his very early years would be a good one to study.  go to youtube and study some of his early fights where he was severly undersized and study what he did to overcome that.  bobbing under a jab and hooking out of it will be your bread and butter.  another good guy ta watch would be Chris Byrd, he was always the smaller fighter, but he was slick and quick, so he was good.

learn your strenghts and utilize them.  learn your opponents weaknesses fast and exploit them.

there's ways to drop weight, but if you dont have at to lose, you're pretty much limited to eating high fiber foods and limiting your water intake for a week before the fight.

    hope this helps.

  3. work on your jab and read the links below from my site.
