Yooo. I'm just a teenage girl, and I really really want to become an actress. I want to make it big like Miley. I know this business is very tough, but I want to go through it anyway. It's especially hard for me because I live in the DC area. Help please?? Or is there anything I should know about agents, resumes, and/or auditions nearby? I need as much help as possible, and I'm trying to do as much as I can this summer! :D

  1. Have a dad who was already a big country star in his day.

Sorry but that is what happened with Miley.

That is why she got the part as Hannah Montana -- otherwise it would have gone to Lucy who was on American Juniors -- that kids` American Idol -- four years ago.

She made the band with the four other kids and yet she has not come into her own as an actress until now with a role as Alexis Bleidel`s little sister on Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 and as I said she was the choice for Hannah until Miley and her dad showed up with an offer Disney couldn`t refuse.

If you want to be famous and you do not have a famous dad then it is going to be local productions and hard work. Many actresses have to wait tables and do other things while they are waiting for their big break even as adults. Ever see Rent?

Those exact characters were not into acting precisely but if you see the documentary on the DVD -- those were the friends that Jonathan Larson wrote about -- writers and actors and musicians and filmmakers who were trying to find their niche in New York.

Hate to tell you this Princess but you do art --and acting is an art -- because you cannot stop -- the passion is that huge. If you start now shining on the local stage then maybe you will be able to get into a performing arts high school like Duke Ellington School of the Arts right there in Washington.

Or go to a public arts magnet school if you can and get into a great performing arts college after that.

I have no idea if Miley can act or not. She can sing okay and maybe her comfort on stage is why she can deliver on TV but quite honestly I do not know if she could carry a movie or a stage play with her acting ability and outside of the Disney culture (as Disney has a lot of experience coddling and coaching kids through the process).

So...I think your ambition is faulty and you will only be disappointed.

However if you really do have a passion for acting work like nothing you have ever worked for before and maybe you can make it to the top one day.

  2. well this isn't exactly gonna happen over night.  You need time. Most likely you won't make it during teen yrs. Adult perhaps? Well just go out for local community plays and test on what you can do.  Take singing lessons and do what you can in ur local neighborhood and then once you did look for a talent scout and audition on broadway...make ur way up!!

    good luck!

  3. im just like you. I too live in Maryland right near DC and i want to be a singer/acteress. Im just going to camps, lessons and looking around for plays. let me know if you find any and i will do the same!!

  4. You're forgetting something.  Her father is an international superstar.  HE signed on to do the show before she did.  Don't compare yourself to her.  You're not even close to being in the same situation.  If you want to act, go ahead.  But if your goal is to be the next Hannah you shouldn't even try.  They already have one, they aren't looking for another.

  5. Miley mostly made it that far because her dad started it (don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Miley fan) but if you really want it bad, try to be in any and all local plays and musicals. Then once you have a good resemay, you can start keeping your eyes open for any open auditions for movies. If you are in an event that agents are at and you are good, then you might get discovered and ta-da, you are on your way to stardom. But this will probably take a lot of time, be patient. Oh yeah, and try to get a variety of roles so on your resemay, they know you have the ability to do anything. Good Luck!!!!
