Any advice for covering grey-ish roots?

Hi, I would love any advice on covering grey-ish roots. I'm just getting over a neck injury, can't go to hairdressers probably for 2 months and it looks awful! I have a permanent light brown color with highlights and I feel bad enough without this awful hair! Are there any products that temporarily cover roots? Thank you!

  1. Certainly, you can colour your hair at home, just as easily as you can at the hairdressers.  Just be sure to choose the right shade, and please follow the directions exactly!  Hairdressers have the luxury of mixing several shades to get exactly the right one for you, but do the best you can.  If anything, don't go too dark, as it will look worse.  Lighter than your own hair colour will always look best.

Yes, there are temporary rinses which will blend in your white hairs.  It will not cover them completely, but will make them not so white, and will look like highlights.  These are water-based, and will wash out at the next shampoo. You will have to re-apply after every time you shampoo your hair.  It comes as a liquid, or mousse, or gel, and I've seen it as a stick as well.

There are also semi-permanent colours that last through several shampoos.  They usually do not lighten your own hair, but only add a little colour, and will blend in the white very well.  Again, don't go darker than your own hair; lighter is better.  They don't show a line when the colour grows out.  You will have to re-apply the colour after about 6-8 shampoos.

You can also try to wear your hair in a style that doesn't have a part so that your roots are showing.  Perhaps shorter layers at the top so you get more volume and more curls, which would cover the roots easily.  This would be a temporary measure, at least until you were able to get to the hairdressers again.

There is match your brand and match your shade on the left, you can use it to choose the right color.

It has been in many magazines and TV shows, it's supposed to be one of the best "beauty breakthroughs" in a while. Simple concept, but no one had ever done it.

  3. i think you can maybe have a friend dye your whole head black.
