I am helping one of my friends with her college search. She is interested in playing softball at the Division I level in college. Any tips, advice, or personal experience that you would like to share on how to get into this competitive division, what steps she should take, or how she can even find out if it's the right choice for her? Thanks!

  1. She will need to live that sport in detail. For DI she needs to be fully engulfed with bettering her skills and athletic ability. {Strength trainig; cardio.; agility; mentality of competition} These areas are all what she needs to concentrate and focus on compete at this level of sport. Then it becomes a challenge to keep academics at scholarship level. She must be mentally tough and must convience herself that she is the best-without losing reality.

She may want to make a skills video of herself and send it or have a coach send it to the recruiters of her prospective universities. Visit a college sports program and ask about the selection process, reality on chances of playing, expectations of coaches, etc.

I played DII football and baseball and I was lucky I did so when I did because that level today is DI (DIAA). My biggest shock was that I was excellent in high school and average at my college level. Prepare herself for a very high level of competition.
