I'm doing my 'G' driving test out of Oshawa, Ontario tomorrow. Any advice or tips going into it that will help me pass?

  1. I just did mine a couple months ago and passed on the first try. Make sure you do shoulder checks when turning and check your mirrors every 3 seconds or so. Make sure you observe each intersection. You will have to go on the highway - make sure not to speed, but make sure you speed up quickly when getting on - my friend failed because she didn't speed up fast enough. It's all pretty common sense. I also had to do a 3-point turn and an emergency stop and was supposed to parallel park but didn't have time.

Good luck! Oh, and stay in the right lane at all times unless they tell you to change. You'll do fine!

  2. when going onto the highway DO NOT leave the merge lane until you are at highway speeds. ALSO, be prepared to do an "emergency stop" on the highway. Not sure if they make you do that in Oshawa but my brother just did his G test and on the highway here in London the tester suddenly went

"BANG!, your tire just blew, what do you do?" and my brother had to put on his 4-ways, check his mirrors, slow the car down and go onto the shoulder - it was wierd because I didnt have to do that - on the other hand I got my G 4 years ago, perhaps times have changed. Just make sure you make it a habit of checking all 3 mirrors constantly, dont speed, and check over your shoulders - plus make sure before you go for your test that all your headlights, taillights and horn are working - I wasnt allowed to do my test the first time because I had a marker light out.
