Question:

Any advice on Off the Track Thoroughbreds?

I am an 18 year old American currently living in Hong Kong. I am about to adopt a off the track Thoroughbred this week, and while I currently ride in the Junior Jumpers, and I myself are very solid on basics, I have no experience with off the track horses, and I would like some advice and recommendations on how to train and bring along one of these feisty little guys. At the moment, the horses sole purpose would just to be a flat horse, but gradually introduced to jumping. And, seeing how that goes, the horse might turn into a show horse. Any advice that can be given would be a huge helper! Training tips, past experiences - the good and the bad - I want to know it all! Thanks =]

  1. There's a ton to think about when you get an off track thoroughbred.  It's not just about how to control and train the horse, but how to adjust the horse to living away from the track.  Most off track thoroughbreds have never been given free roam in a grassy field and they've never had access to buckets of water in their stalls.  They've always been hand fed and watered.  So make sure that your horse knows how to feed and water himself... make sure he's actually grazing in the field and make sure that he understands how to drink from his bucket in his stall.

As for training, there's a lot to do.  I'm giving you a link in my sources.  It's from a place that adopts retired racers out.  The page that I have linked to is the training tips page that has tips for every step when you bring your OTTB home... starting with basic "how to live in a barn" stuff, through bitting (teaching the horse to bend and accept the bit), up to how to ride walk trot and canter!  It's best if you have a more experienced person to help you, but this guide will be a great help even if it's just you.  Good luck!

AND THE FACT THAT YOU EVEN ABLE TO RIDE THERE YOU must have lots of money ,,

So from, What I know and believe is that this is a prank Question !
