Question:

Any advice on accepted/valid reasons by the Australian Embassy for renewing a tourist visa (subclass 676)?

We are on a working visa (subclass 457) here in Sydney and we sponsored a tourist visa for my mom which was granted (for 3 months stay) and has just expired so mom just left for Manila this day. We need to get her back here in Sydney the soonest and re-apply for her tourist visa again. As it is too hard to secure an Australian tourist visa in the Philippines, we need to provide the Embassy valid reasons for sponsoring her back the soonest, considering she just had 3 months vacation here. The previous reason we gave the Embassy was that her visit here was our gift for her birthday and that she will spend her vacation here.

Any other reasons you can advice would be appreciated.

  1. I suggest that you tell them that your mother just likes Australia and wants to visit you and your family in Australia again. It would be more easier for her to be granted a visa if she did not already have a 3 month holiday in Oz. I suggest that you wait a month or two and then apply for another visa. As she did not violate the conditions of her previous visa, the Australian government has evidence that she is a true visitor and is law abiding. Why didn't you apply for a visa extension while she was in Australia? If ou do apply for another visa, apply for a longer stay.

@ Ibu Guru: How are they committing fraud? It is not illegal for someone to visit several times a year. If their mother was violating the visa conditions, such as working, then it would be fraud. I think that you are just jumping to conclusions, as the question said nothing about her mother violating the visas conditions.

  2. You are committing immigration fraud!  If you apply for another tourist visa so soon, you and your mother will be investigated.  You could lose your working visa for fraud, and you'll be lucky if you are only deported and not jailed for awhile.  It will be at least a year before Mom can come "visit" again.

Also, did Mom get out before the visa expired?  If not, don't even think about bringing her back in any great hurry.  That has been noted and immigration authorities will be on the lookout for any signs of immigration fraud, etc.  You already alerted them you are playing fast and loose with the law.
